Ledger resident foodie and restaurant reviewer Trent Rowe scours the food ads each week to find the best buys at each supermarket chain.

Publix: Pumpkin pie, 24 ounce, for $3.

Winn-Dixie: Butterball turkey, frozen, for 99 cents a pound.

Walmart: Sweet potatoes at 25 cents per pound.

Watch for the Buy-One-Get-One deals at Publix this week. Many are suited to Thanksgiving and the leftovers days to follow.

Ocean Spray cranberry sauce is BOGO at two for $1.55 or 77.5 cents each. Winn-Dixie is charging four for $5 ($1.25) and Walmart's price is 88 cents a can.

If you still drape your bird with bacon, Oscar Mayer is BOGO at $5.19 for two full-pound packages. That includes maple flavor. Do I sense an idea brewing?

Cranberries are BOGO, along with Florida navel oranges, for $2.99. Some orange is always nice in your cranberry sauce. The berries are 12-ounces to a package. Watch the size in your old recipe.

Swanson chicken broth is BOGO at two for $1.09. When you run out of time this can be a lifesaver for gravy. Del Monte canned vegetables, including green beans for the casserole go BOGO.

Need mayo for the sandwiches and turkey salad? Hellman's is BOGO at two for $4.99

Nothing mashes like a good old Idaho potato. Though white potatoes are $1.99 for five pounds, the better mashers are $2.99 for the same size bag.

When sandwiches just won't make it any more, try a turkey lasagna ... Polly-O mozzarella cheese is $3.49, Publix crumbled cheeses, including gorgonzola, go $2 for four ounces, Classico pasta sauce is down to $2 a jar. Ronzoni lasagna pasta is BOGO at two for $1.99.

If there's room in the freezer you might want to pick up a Publix frozen turkey, eight pounds and up, for 79 cents. Tuck it away with a package of the bacon for Christmas or Easter.

Winn-Dixie has onions and sweet potatoes for the big dinner. Onions go for $2 for three pounds and sweet potatoes are 69 cents a pound.

If you want to try a duck, they're $2.79 a pound in the freezer.

I saw a goose in a Publix' freezer the other day for $58 and change. And it wasn't even cooked.

Asparagus is a good deal for $1.99 a pound, and the celery you need for stuffing is 99 cents.

The day will come when you've had your fill of birds, go for fresh ground beef at $1.99 a pound.

A small section of BOGOs includes peanuts, corn chips, crackers, bread olive oil and Swanson cooking broths. Get out the Celestial Seasonings coupon and use it now on the BOGO deal.

Candy canes are $1 for a six-ounce package. Just for fun, turn the box over and see where they are made. Some brands are from Mexico.

Happy $hopping.
